 The French River

The French River is a true gem right in our backyard… 🚣‍♂️✨ It’s easy to see why this area has been cherished for generations. Every bend revealed a new, perfect spot to pause and take it all in. What’s even better is how close this adventure is to home. Just a short drive from North Bay, and you’re in a place that feels worlds away. I can’t recommend it enough! 🌊🌲 Take a moment to check out some of the highlights I found along the way…

I paddled through some truly memorable spots… Not long after starting, I reached Recollet Falls, a stunning sight that really set the tone for the whole trip. That first night, I camped at site 603, which was a perfect, peaceful retreat under the stars. The next day, I made it all the way out to the Sturgeon Chutes—an absolutely breathtaking area. After that, I paddled back to the Pickerel River and set up camp at site 631 for the night. On the way home, I encountered a turkey vulture and what appeared to be a deceased deer floating in the water, a stark reminder of nature's cycle of life and death.

Take a moment to check out some of the highlights I found along the way…

The French River – Labour Day Weekend at Campsite 123

Highlight reel of The French River scenery from Labour Day weekend. Spent a beautiful Labour Day weekend on the French River, exploring the scenery in and around Campsite 123. Campsite 123 sits in a quiet island spot, away from the busier route. If you’re thinking of staying here, bring extra firewood, as wood can be limited on smaller islands, but you can usually gather what you need from nearby shorelines. Northern Ontario at its best.
